Radhika Yadav, a former state-level tennis player, was allegedly shot and killed by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their home in Gurugram following a disagreement over her career choices.
Police confirmed Deepak Yadav’s arrest on the same day of the incident. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that he had been mentally disturbed due to ongoing remarks from relatives and neighbors who accused him of depending financially on his daughter.
According to investigators, Deepak claimed he had been suffering from severe stress and insomnia for nearly two weeks before the incident occurred.
Radhika’s tennis career had been interrupted two years earlier due to an injury. Since then, she had dedicated herself to coaching aspiring young players, hoping to pass on her skills and experience.
Despite investing more than ₹2.5 crore in her training over the years, her father allegedly urged her to abandon her coaching efforts, arguing that his property income of ₹15 lakh per year was enough to sustain them and that her work was unnecessary.
In a conversation shortly before her death, Radhika reportedly told her father, “You’ve spent ₹2.5 crore on me. I won’t let that go in vain. I want to train the next generation.”
Radhika had also been exploring social media as a potential career path, appearing in reels and even a music video. However, due to her father’s objections, she was allegedly pressured into removing her online content.
The case remains under investigation by local authorities.
