Former Newcastle United star holds talks for vacancy at Hull City

Former Newcastle United star Emre Belozoglu could be set to take up his first managerial post in England.

Hull City are interested in the one-time NUFC player as their next manager.

The club’s owner confirming that Emre Belozoglu is one of two people the club are currently talking to.

Hull City finished fourth bottom in the season just finished, avoiding relegation only due to better goal difference than Luton Town.

Emre Belozoglu is currently manager at Turkish club Antalyaspor, who are 12th in the league as they near the end of their season.

The stand out moment for Emre Belozoglu in his time at Newcastle United, was when scoring a brilliant 30 yard free-kick that made it a 3-2 winning scoreline against Sunderland twenty years ago, in October 2005.

Hull Daily Mail report – 17 May 2025:

‘Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has held talks with former Newcastle United and Inter Milan midfielder Emre Belözoğlu over the vacant managerial position.

Emre is now one of two leading candidates to replace Ruben Selles, who was sacked by Ilicali on Thursday after guiding City to safety on the final day of the Championship season.

Owner Ilicali spoke to Hull Live from his home in Istanbul on Friday evening to confirm that Emre was in the running, but so too was another manager currently operating in England and under contract at another club.’
