The Golden State Warriors-Jonathan Kuminga saga continues to drag on. The Warriors and Kuminga’s team have not been close during their contract negotiations, and it looks like a sign-and-trade scenario could be the best for both sides.

The problem is, nobody seems to want to pay a high price for Kuminga. Additionally, the Warriors don’t seem to be budging on their price, and Kuminga’s camp isn’t agreeing to a contract they deem unworthy.

That’s why any piece of Kuminga news regarding his Warriors contract negotiations is so important.

One former Warriors rival recently leaked some potentially useful information on whether Kuminga is going to stay with the Warriors or not.

Rivers spoke on his Off Guard podcast about the Kuminga situation.

“I do know because his financial manager and his overall manager were mine… So, you’re close to the situation. I hear it all the time. And they want him – they’re trying to get him the hell out of there.”

The fact that Kuminga’s team may be trying to push him out of Golden State is not a good sign. Not only does it weaken the Warriors negotiating power with other teams, but it also puts a further strain on what is already a tender relationship.

At this point, it might even be in Kuminga’s best interest to sign a short-term deal with the Warriors, get traded during the regular season, and sign an extension or enter free agency again once he’s further proved himself.

Whatever ends up happening, both the Warriors and Kuminga are going to end up as losers.

So while Rivers’ information is probably accurate, it doesn’t serve either side for everyone to know about it.
