Based on WhoScored match ratings, here is the worst player for every Premier League club in 2024/25.
We are only including players with at least eight starts and 14 matches played to avoid including players who get five minutes at the end every other week.
Arsenal: Mikel Merino (6.67)
We thought Merino would be a great signing for Arsenal but it turns out that they should have spent that £30m on someone more creative. Or a striker.
Aston Villa: Pau Torres (6.35)
Torres had a positive debut season but his sophomore year in the Premier League has not been without its duress.
The 24-cap Spaniard has not played since December 30 due to a metatarsal fracture, so won’t be able to up his average match rating for a while.
Bournemouth: Adam Smith (6.32)
Smith is a fantastic servant but ultimately past his best. Andoni Iraola clearly knows that having signed Julian Araujo in the summer transfer window.
Araujo has been poor and Smith has played more than expected as a result – he has done fine but right-back is obviously a position Iraola wants to improve in. Lewis Cook has played there three times in his career, and they have all come in the last three weeks.
Brentford: Mathias Jensen (6.47)
It should technically be Mads Roerslev but the Danish right-back has randomly left Brentford, joining Wolfsburg on loan last week. We don’t understand it but he obviously has his reasons.
No Roerslev means fellow Dane Jensen is our man. The 29-year-old played the first three Premier League matches of the season, missing five through injury, played five, missed another five, and has now played six in a row. Tread carefully, young man.
Brighton: Bart Verbruggen (6.44)
Seagulls goalkeeper Verbruggen conceded seven at Nottingham Forest in his most recent match, which is a lot of goals.
The Netherlands No. 1 has been very inconsistent this season and has recorded five errors leading to a shot, the third most in Our League.
👉 Premier League player stats: Bukayo Saka somehow still second for assists
Chelsea: Marc Cucurella (6.46)
Here’s me thinking Cucurella has been decent this season. The algorithm is far from everything but 6.46 is disappointing considering how impressive the Spaniard was at last summer’s European Championship.
Crystal Palace: Daichi Kamada (6.33)
Signed on a free last summer, a lot of people expected Kamada to be one of the bargains of the season. So far, he has failed to do anything of note in 20 matches except get sent off.
Everton: Jack Harrison (6.25)
Harrison has zero goal involvements in 12 starts and seven substitute appearances.
Fulham: Issa Diop (6.31)
Tom Cairney and Diop have the same number of appearances (17) in the Premier League this season but the latter has started 15 times in comparison to the former’s two starts.
Diop’s rating is 0.05 better than Cairney’s but his 682 more minutes means he is Fulham’s worst player in 2024/25.
Ipswich: Wes Burns (6.22)
We have no idea when Burns will play again because that injury at Anfield looked awful.
Leicester: Harry Winks (6.35)
Yep, checks out.
Liverpool: Andy Robertson (6.66)
It had to be someone and out of every regular Liverpool starter, we are not too surprised by the result.
Man City: Manuel Akanji (6.43)
It was Kyle Walker with his 6.27 before he escaped to Italy. It is now Akanji, who has been a brilliant signing for City but a bit off the boil this term, like all of his team-mates.
Man Utd: Rasmus Hojlund (6.25)
Being left on the bench for Kobbie Mainoo to start up front might not have reached Jon Macken and David James level of humiliation but it would have been a right kick in the you-know-where for Hojlund.
The Dane was supposed to kick on this season but has somehow gotten even worse, and he was bad for 85 per cent of last season. Two goal involvements is a very poor return for a £70m striker, especially when you realise Man City goalkeeper Ederson has the same.

Newcastle: Sean Longstaff (6.31)
A few Newcastle fans wanted rid of Longstaff in January to raise funds for a new signing, but that never happened. The Geordie lad has zero goal contributions in 18 league appearances this term.
Nottingham Forest: Nicolas Dominguez (6.48)
We have officially entered ‘they couldn’t, could they?’ territory with Nottingham Forest, who responded to a chastening 5-0 defeat with a 7-0 win, as you do.
Their ‘worst player’ has zero goals or assists this season but a lovely six yellow cards.
Southampton: Adam Armstrong (6.17)
Jack Stephens has been rescued by a serious lack of game time because his 5.94 rating is a shocker. He made his return in the win at Ipswich after nine games without a league minute.
Armstrong takes his place and joins the greats before him in the ‘too good for the Championship, not good enough for the Premier League’ camp.
Tottenham: Archie Gray (6.18)
If there is one player here we will defend, it’s Gray. He is a scrawny teenager whose natural position is midfield, who has been thrusted in right, centre and left-back due to an insane injury crisis.
All things considered, he has done exceptionally well in a struggling Spurs side.
West Ham: Vladimir Coufal (6.28)
Coufal lost his place to Aaron Wan-Bissaka but injuries and suspensions have seen him play a decent amount this season.
Wolves: Craig Dawson (6.26)
Two own goals this term is a Premier League high with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. Dawson is 34 years old, so we feel inclined to let him off.
