Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has shared how deeply the 2021 leak of her private video affected her and how the public reacted.
Speaking in a recent interview with American radio station Hot 97, the award-winning singer described the criticism and accusations that followed the incident.
The mother of one pointed out that many people alleged she planned the leak for publicity.
“I was bashed for my sex video,” she said during the interview. “A lot of people think I was just trying to get sympathy. Even people with platforms were quite horrible and blamed me.”
Savage said she was shocked by the lack of empathy.
“I don’t know how they couldn’t see me as the victim in this,” she added. “They said I did it to be relevant. If I were doing that, I would’ve been intentional about it. I would have used better lighting, lingerie, and my facial expressions would have been on point.”
