FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has cautioned the PDP against readmitting former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, warning it would spell doom ahead of 2027.

In a media chat, Wike accused the party of ignoring lessons from 2023 by uniting both the presidential ticket and chairmanship in the North, which he said “purged” the PDP.

He argued the presidency must return to the South and described Obi’s possible comeback as reckless.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against welcoming former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, back into its fold, warning that such a decision could spell doom for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, the former Rivers State governor criticized the PDP for failing to learn from its mistakes in the 2023 elections, especially in the handling of zoning and leadership positions.

“From day one, I told my colleagues, PDP, you are shooting yourself. If you allow what is going on to continue, you’ll pay. And what did I say? You cannot have the presidential candidate at the same time as the national chairman of the party,” Wike said.

He accused the party of “stealing” both the ticket and the chairmanship, arguing that the decision “purged” the PDP and contributed to its loss at the polls.

According to Wike, the presidency must rotate back to the South to maintain balance and fairness.

The minister dismissed speculations about Obi’s possible return to the PDP, describing it as a dangerous and reckless move.

“To what? Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party? Obi that was abusing the party, saying it is rotten—so the party is now good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” Wike stated.

He further warned that readmitting Obi would strip the PDP of its principles and ideology, reducing it to nothing more than a platform for personal ambition.

“If you want to destroy this party, dare it—bring Obi. There’s no way he will come back just because of ambition. No more ideology, no longer principle,” he added.
