Muhammad emphasized that families marrying off their daughters should clearly state that there would be no negotiations or peaceful settlements in cases involving physical abuse
A viral video making the rounds online captures the moment a Nigerian man was severely flogged by his in-laws for physically assaulting his wife.
The clip, which was shared on Facebook by Abdulahafiz Muhammad, has sparked conversations about domestic violence and accountability within marriages.
In his post shared on Monday, July 21, Muhammad emphasized that families marrying off their daughters should clearly state that there would be no negotiations or peaceful settlements in cases involving physical abuse.
“I just watched a video on Sadiq Madabo’s timeline where a man was beaten up by his in-laws for beating his wife. It made me remember the time my uncle did the same thing when his son-in-law beat his daughter,” he wrote.
“It wasn’t the first time the boy was doing it so my uncle knew he needed to teach him a lesson. He went to the boy’s house, walked into his living room where he was greeted by the boy, beeeeeeat him up like mad, then walked back home. Shikenan. Message properly delivered. It was the last time the in-law hit her again.
“If you have a daughter whose hand you’re giving in marriage to someone, make sure to state to them sternly that you will do the worst if he ever lays a finger on her. You must make it clear to them that there will be no round table mediation if physical assault is involved. It’s just energy for energy.
“People need to know that they can’t joke with your daughters and go scot-free. You didn’t pick these daughters from the stores; you gave birth to them.”
