Is there a NASCAR race this week, you wonder? Of course, there is! The NASCAR Cup Series will head to Martinsville Speedway on Sunday for the Xfinity 500 — the penultimate race in the playoffs before the Championship 4 at Phoenix.
Here’s the essential guide for fans and families who don’t want to miss a second of the Martinsville action this weekend.
Is There a NASCAR Race This Week? Where to Watch Martinsville on TV and Streaming?
There aren’t many better chances left this season for NASCAR Cup Series drivers to prove their mettle. This weekend’s penultimate race takes place at Martinsville Speedway, where the field will battle over 263 miles in the Xfinity 500.
The drivers’ championship had a new leader after the YellaWood 500, where Chase Briscoe delivered a standout performance to grab victory and the points lead. It was yet another show of consistency — his eighth top 10 in nine outings.
Christopher Bell quietly kept himself in the hunt, finishing P8 to stay within striking distance of the leaders. This is his seventh straight top eight result in the playoffs. For others near the summit, though, Martinsville was brutal, with five of the top eight faltering.
Kyle Larson could manage only P26, while Denny Hamlin slipped to fourth in the standings after finishing P24. Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano will also feel the pressure heading into this weekend, falling to seventh and sixth, respectively.
Hamlin and Briscoe have confirmed their spots in the Championship 4, but two more slots are still available. So, most of the field will be desperate to produce a solid performance at Martinsville on Sunday.
As always, Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass has published the detailed schedule and broadcasting information for the Martinsville weekend. It’s going to be a busy weekend for the half-mile oval as the Mazda MX-5 Cup and the Whelen Modified Tour will hit the track before the national series events.
