Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo of David’s Christian Centre has urged women to stop relying on men for financial support, stressing that the idea is cultural, not biblical.
He noted that the Bible teaches self-reliance through work and warned that women who lower their standards for financial favors risk being disrespected.
According to him, true value comes from independence and not depending on men for survival.
Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, founder of David’s Christian Centre, has cautioned women against depending on men for financial support.
He explained that such expectations are rooted in culture, not scripture, emphasizing that the Bible upholds the principle of working to earn a living rather than relying on others to meet one’s needs.
He said: “It never favours you. That thing was a cultural idea. It’s not biblical.
“That a man should take care of a woman. It’s not biblical. What the Bible says is that he that does not work should not eat. Okay, before you marry, how were you surviving? Before you had a boyfriend, before you had a fiancé, how were you surviving? That’s the question.
“Like I said, all this talk is poor people talk. Look, somebody that has a well-to-do parent that raised them well,
they will send you to the best schools.
You’ll finish the best schools, you’ll get one of the best jobs. They won’t leave you to roam around with one boy to pay for you. A boy that buys you puff puff, the way he will squeeze you like puff puff.
And the way some of you are being treated is because of how you have rated yourself. If you don’t buy me popcorn, I won’t come. Then the way they will pop you like corn. They are disgracing your family.”
