UFC commentator Joe Rogan had one of the strangest interviews of his career during The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale.
Joe Rogan‘s post-fight interview with Gray Maynard came after one of the strangest fight conclusions in UFC history at The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale.
Maynard and Rob Emerson battled on the TUF 5 Finale undercard in a highly-anticipated lightweight bout between two of the show’s top combatants. The two lightweights battled for a shot in the UFC after an eventful end to TUF 5, featuring a star-studded cast of top names like Nate Diaz and Manny Gamburyan.
Maynard and Emerson didn’t disappoint with their fight for as long as it lasted, but the ending left much more to be desired, for the wrong reasons.

In Round 2, Maynard put his foot on the gas and attempted a big takedown, before slamming Emerson to the canvas and knocking him out cold.
But the only problem was: Maynard was knocked out too, as he appeared to land on the top of his head as he and Emerson landed on the canvas. Both fighters were unconscious for a full minute before they woke up from the knockout blows.
Maynard looked visibly confused after he was convinced he secured the knockout win over Emerson, before ring announcer Bruce Buffer shared the official result as a ‘no contest’ due to both fighters getting knocked out simultaneously. Rogan immediately went over to an angry Maynard for an interview, and things quickly escalated.
Maynard was convinced he didn’t go unconscious during the fight’s final sequence, assuring Rogan that he was simply lying down due to fatigue. But Rogan wasn’t budging in Maynard going out cold due to the freak accident, and the two sides shared a fiery post-fight interview.

Joe Rogan’s interview with Gray Maynard was arguably the strangest moment of his broadcasting careerUFC CEO Dana White said in a post-event interview that he agreed with the ‘no-contest’ ruling, and that the promotion intended on granting both fighters an immediate rematch. But while both Emerson and Maynard were signed to the UFC, they didn’t fight each other again during their careers.
Rogan’s post-fight UFC interviews have become a custom of high-profile fights. During his career on the mic, Rogan has gotten emotional interviewing several fight winners, including after Rose Namajunas‘s knockout over Zhang Weili at UFC 261.
Maynard went on to have a modest career in the UFC, most notably for his legendary trilogy with Frankie Edgar. But Maynard also earned wins over the likes of Kenny Florian, Dennis Siver, and Clay Guida during his career.
