Josh Sargent’s first Norwich City start in close to three months couldn’t have went much better.
Sargent scored two goals and logged 65 minutes as the host Canaries defeated Swansea City 5-1 at Carrow Road. The U.S. men’s national team forward had made a trio of substitute performances earlier this month in EFL Championship and FA Cup play prior to Saturday’s start.
Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad grabbed a first-half lead through Sargent’s first goal since October. Emiliano Marcondes set up the veteran striker before he drilled a low shot into the bottom-right corner.
Liam Cullen equalized for Swansea City in the 62nd minute before Sargent added to his already impressive afternoon. Ante Crnac laid a pass off for Sargent on the ensuing Norwich City attack before watching the 24-year-old slot home his second goal of the match.
It is Sargent’s first multi-goal performance since February 17, 2024.
Lewis Dobbin, Crnac, and Marcondes would add insurance goals for Norwich City in the second half, sealing an important three points for the Canaries.
Sargent, who is back flying with confidence, will aim to retain his starting role when Norwich City travels to Watford on February 1. A strong run of form for Sargent could play wonders in his chase to get back into the USMNT picture for March’s CONCACAF Nations League window.
