Najib Adamu, a resident of Kwanar Dala in Kano State, has been arraigned before a Sharia Court following the brutal assault on his stepmother, Maryam Ibrahim.

This seemingly innocent request, however, allegedly provoked intense anger in Najib, who subsequently launched a violent attack on the woman.

The assault was so severe that it resulted in Maryam losing the sight in her left eye.

The Kano state Police Command arrested Najib on charges of threat and violence.

He was brought before Sharia Court No. 1 sitting at Kofar Kudu, presided over by Justice Shamsuddin Ado Abdullahi Unguwar Gini.

During the court proceedings, the prosecuting lawyer, Aliya Aminu Yar Gaya, recited the charges against him. While Najib denied the allegations of issuing threats, he however admitted to the charge of beating his stepmother.

In a preliminary ruling, Presiding Judge Abdullahi ordered that Najib be remanded in a correctional facility until September 15, 2024, when the court is expected to pronounce its final verdict on the case.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, a community member, say these laws if implemented will reduce criminal and immoral activities in the area.

The suspect claimed the act was staged to gain social media attention, though he denied actual contact with the animal.

Hisbah officials condemned the act and ordered mental and drug evaluations, warning against eroding Islamic and moral values for online fame.
