American rapper Lil Nas X will be spending the weekend behind bars after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and later hospitalised over a suspected overdose.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the 26-year-old cannot be released on citation due to the seriousness of the charge. He will remain in custody until Monday, when he is expected to appear before a judge who will decide on his bail.
Police revealed that the charge falls under Penal Code 69 (a) PC, which accuses him of using force or violence to resist or obstruct an officer in the performance of their duty, Daily Mail reports.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning when the Old Town Road star was spotted acting erratically on Ventura Boulevard. Witnesses claimed he was walking in the middle of the street wearing only underwear and cowboy boots, singing, talking about a party, and striking poses.
When officers arrived at the scene, Lil Nas X allegedly charged at them before being restrained. He was then taken to a hospital over concerns of a possible overdose, and later booked on the assault charge.
Reports also suggest that his family is increasingly worried about his behaviour and are considering an intervention.
