Premier League champions Liverpool travel to the south coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday evening.

Arne Slot’s side secured the top flight title with victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month, but the Reds have since been beaten by Chelsea and drawn against Arsenal.

The Dutchman will be keen to see his side return to winning ways in their final away match of the campaign, but the Seagulls will undoubtedly provide a stern test.

This summer could be a busy one at Anfield, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement for the England international, but it now appears that the Merseyside club are interested in another Dutch player.

According to TBR Football, Liverpool have been keeping tabs on RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons.

The 22-year-old is capable of operating on the left flank or as an attacking midfielder, but the report even suggests that he could be seen as a replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

It is claimed that Liverpool have been doing checks on Leverkusen’s Frimpong, but they have also been doing similar groundwork on his Netherlands teammate Simons.

The report claims that those in charge of Liverpool believe that Alexander-Arnold’s creativity will be the attribute that will be missed most when he departs, but Simons could help to fill that gap.

The Dutchman has scored 21 goals and provided 23 assists in 76 matches for Leipzig across all competitions, having initially signed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 before making the switch permanent in January.

He is under contract with Leipzig until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but it appears that the German side may face a battle to keep hold of the attacker beyond this summer.
