Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez will allegedly resume light training with the Red Devils before the end of their pre-season tour.
Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez will reportedly resume light training with the 20-time English champions before the end of their pre-season tour.
The Argentina international has been out of action since the start of February due to a serious knee injury, and it had initially been thought that he would not be back on the field until 2026.
However, Martinez travelled with his Red Devils teammates to the United States for their pre-season tour, and according to the Manchester Evening News, he is preparing to begin light training with the Red Devils.
The report claims that Martinez has done some outdoor running and ball work during the tour, but he has thus far been unable to join in with his teammates due to the serious nature of his injury.
A return is seemingly not far off, though, with Martinez due to return to light training, suggesting that he is well on course to feature in the first half of the 2025-26 campaign.
Martinez ‘set to resume light training’ with Man UnitedThe 27-year-old made the move to Man United from Ajax in the summer of 2022, and he has represented the Red Devils on 91 occasions in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering three assists.
Martinez is believed to be Ruben Amorim’s first choice for the left-sided role in the back three, although the Argentina international will not be rushed back into action in the early weeks of the new season.
Man United will round off their pre-season tour of the United States with a clash against Everton on Sunday night, before returning to England to tackle Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9.
The 20-time English champions will then open their 2025-26 Premier League season against Arsenal on August 17, before also tackling Fulham and Burnley in the league before the end of the month.
When will Onana, Zirkzee return for Man United?Neither Andre Onana nor Joshua Zirkzee have featured for Man United this summer, with the pair suffering injuries during the early stages of pre-season training.
Onana has been dealing with a hamstring strain, while Zirkzee has an unspecified issue, with the pair again absent against Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series on Wednesday night.
“I’ve got a small injury but it shouldn’t take too long to recover now,” Zirkzee said last week. “I’ve got great physios working with me every day. It’s not a serious problem. It’s pre-season so unlike last season where I wanted to push myself to be back for the final, obviously now I just want to be there for the start of the season.”
Zirkzee allegedly has a chance of being back in the squad for the clash with Everton on Sunday, while Onana is expected to be back between the sticks against Fiorentina on August 9.
There is currently a host of speculation surrounding Onana’s future, with Man United seemingly in the market for a new goalkeeper, but the Cameroonian is expecting to again be the club’s number one next term.
