Malik Tillman will not play a part in most of PSV’s remaining four months this season.

Tillman, who suffered an ankle injury in January, revealed that he will be sidelined for “a few months”. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder suffered the injury in a 5-4 KNVB Cup extra time victory over Excelsior, which has kept him sidelined since.

“I’ll be out for a few months but hopefully I’ll still make my comeback this season,” Tillman said in a club interview Tuesday.

Tillman. 22, made the permanent move to Eindhoven last summer following an impactful season-long loan spell from Bayern Munich. He remained a consistent performer in Peter Bosz’s squad this season, tallying 11 goals and four assists in 26 appearances, helping PSV to first place in the Eredivisie and alive in two other competitions.

However, Tillman’s absence now leaves a major hole in PSV’s midfield going forward, as well as for the USMNT ahead of the March CONCACAF Nations League window.

PSV’s Eredivisie lead has been trimmed to two points and the club will face rivals Feyenoord on Wednesday in KNVB Cup play.
