United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and – after losing against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao – the Manchester giants won’t feature in continental competition this time around.

This summer has been a busy one for Man United with Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha among those to have arrived at the club.

Now, it appears that the Manchester giants are in pole position to land a huge new signing.

According to CaughtOffside, Man United are leading the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba.

The report claims that the Red Devils are ahead of fierce rivals Manchester City in the battle to sign the 21-year-old, who has been in fine form for the Seagulls over the past 12 months.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has since played 77 times for the south coast club across all competitions.

It is claimed that United have been in talks with the player for several weeks and have agreed personal terms with the player, however Man City are now stepping up their pursuit of the player with manager Pep Guardiola a huge admirer.

Baleba himself is said to have informed Brighton that he wishes to depart in order to join the Red Devils, however his current side are set to demand a huge fee for the player.

Brighton paid around £23 million to land the midfielder just two years ago, but the report claims that they could now demand a fee as high as £100 million to allow the Cameroon international to leave.
