Manchester United reportedly make a ‘verbal offer’ for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, who has rejected a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United have reportedly made a ‘verbal offer’ for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.
The Frenchman’s future is currently the subject of much speculation, having informed Bayern that he wants to leave Allianz Arena before the end of the January transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur had a €60m (£50m) bid for the 19-year-old accepted on Friday, but Tel has rejected the chance to make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Tel will not be in the Bayern squad for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Holstein Kiel amid the speculation surrounding his future.
Plettenberg claims that all options are currently open, with Tel potentially leaving on loan or on a permanent basis, while he could yet remain with Bayern if the right opportunity does not arrive before the transfer deadline.
Sky Deutschland are reporting that a ‘verbal offer’ has now been submitted to Bayern from Man United, with the Red Devils pushing to secure his signature before the end of the January transfer window.
The report claims that ‘there is no full agreement’, but the line of communication is open, and Tel is believed to favour a move to Man United over any other club in the latter stages of the January transfer market.

Aston Villa, Arsenal and Chelsea are also believed to be keen on Tel, although the former are now seemingly concentrating their efforts on bringing in Marcus Rashford on loan from Man United.
Tel has struggled to make his mark for Bayern during the 2024-25 campaign, failing to find the back of the net in 14 appearances in all competitions, but he scored 10 goals and registered six assists in 41 outings last term.
The teenager primarily operates down the left, but he could be used as one of the number 10s in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.
A recent report claimed that Man United are planning to bring in Tel on loan and sell Alejandro Garnacho before the deadline, with Napoli, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all in the mix for the Argentina international.
Man United allegedly value Garnacho in the region of £60m, and it remains to be seen whether an offer of that value arrives for the forward in the latter stages of the market.
