Fun fact: the first film is actually the most-watched movie on Disney+ ever
Moana 2 will begin streaming on Disney+ Canada on March 12.
This follows a massive three-month theatrical run for the animated adventure film which led to it grossing over US$1 billion (about CA$1.42 billion) worldwide. It’s the fourth Walt Disney Animated Studios film to achieve this milestone after Frozen, Zooptopia and Frozen 2.
Moana 2 follows the titular heroine (Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui (Dwayne Johnson) as they assemble a wayfinding crew and embark on an expedition to break the curse of the lost island of Motufetu.
It’s worth noting that the first Moana is the most streamed movie on Disney+, with audiences having watched it 748 million times as of last November. The analytics firm Nielsen has also reported that Moana has been one of the four most-watched movies on any streaming service for the past half-decade.
Walt Disney Animated Studios’ next film, Zootopia 2, hits theatres in November.
