Afrobeats star and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, is taking his business ambitions to a new level with a bold plan to acquire African music catalogues through his company, emPawa Africa.
The singer made the announcement on Monday, September 15, 2025, via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he invited rights holders to reach out. “Btw I’m buying catalogues so if you got African music catalogue that you own (with proof) and you have 3 years earnings history and you wanna sell a piece contact @emPawaAfrica,” he wrote.
The move reflects a growing trend in the global music industry, where catalogues, the rights to an artist’s body of work, are increasingly being acquired by major companies for long-term revenue. Artists often benefit by receiving a substantial upfront payout, while the acquiring company profits from future royalties.
By requiring proof of ownership and at least three years of earnings history, Mr Eazi through emPawa Africa appears to be targeting established music catalogues with proven value. The strategy is also in line with Mr Eazi’s vision of keeping African intellectual property in African hands, while positioning emPawa as a significant player in the continent’s rapidly expanding music economy.
This initiative follows the company’s recent appointment of Miller Williams as Head of Publishing, a role focused on catalogue growth and international expansion. Already known for discovering and developing stars like Joeboy, emPawa Africa is now signaling a new phase, one that could reshape how African music is valued and monetized globally.
With this latest move, Mr Eazi continues to prove he is more than an artist; he’s also a forward-thinking entrepreneur setting new standards for the business of African music.
