Princess Eugenia of Hanover has opened up about the downside of having a royal title, revealing it caused her more harm than good during her younger years.
The 23-year-old aristocrat, who now lives in Vienna, reflected on how her family name often made things uncomfortable, especially while she was in school.
“In school, I had some teachers that just didn’t like me because of it, and they also said some comments which were not very nice or reasonable,” she said in a recent interview.
Eugenia, the daughter of Prince Heinrich of Hanover and Princess Thyra von Westernhagen, is also connected to Monaco’s royal family through her uncle Prince Ernst, who is married to Princess Caroline of Monaco. Still, she emphasized that her title holds no real weight in everyday life.
“In Germany, it is just a name and it actually doesn’t mean anything anymore. For me, it doesn’t mean anything because I don’t see myself as something different to others.”
She also admitted that she didn’t particularly enjoy school and was more passionate about spending time with her horses. Despite this, Eugenia is currently pursuing a medical degree at a top university in Vienna, following the path of her grandfather, Prince Ernest Augustus, who worked as an ENT professor.
Alongside her academic journey, Eugenia has stepped into the world of modeling. Though her parents were initially uncertain about the path, her mother eventually came around.
“They were apprehensive, but my mom came with me to shoots, a bit scared, and then she saw it was all fine,” Eugenia explained.
Looking ahead, she remains committed to completing her education.
“Right now I’m very happy about my life. It’s very stable. I think if I only did fashion, then that could mess it up. I only have two more years to be a general doctor. There’s no point leaving now it wouldn’t be worth it.”
