NBC Responds to Petition Seeking Ban on BBNaija Over Indecent Content

NBC acknowledged receipt of the petition through its Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Pauline Ehusani, on behalf of the Director.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has responded after an activist lawyer raised concerns over the content of the BBNaija reality show.

The lawyer, Idam, had petitioned the NBC to ban or restrict BBNaija from being aired in public spaces within 30 days, warning of legal action if ignored. He argued the show contains obscene, indecent, and profane material, citing the NBC Act of 1999.

NBC acknowledged receipt of the petition through its Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Pauline Ehusani, on behalf of the Director.

Acknowledging the petition, NBC said: “Your complaint dated 4th August 2025, in respect of the above subject matter.

“Kindly note that our Act is now referred to as the National Broadcasting Commission Act, Cap N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

“Regarding the subject of your complaint, please be informed that the Commission is equally concerned with the brazen contravention of the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code (6th Edition) which clearly prohibit the airing of obscene content.

“Be assured that the Management of the Commission is already on the issue and vital decisions will be taken to ensure compliance with the rules by all concerned.

“In the same vein, the Commission is tasking you and other well-meaning Nigerians to immediately flag such content as soon as it appears on social media; if flagged enough, such content could be taken down permanently.
