A Nigerian pastor, Benjamin Egbaji from Cross River State, has spent two years in detention in Benin Republic following allegations of rape.
The information was shared by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Ojukwu stated that she visited the Centre National Hospital Universitaire (CNHU), where the pastor, who is facing serious health challenges, is being held.
The pastor was accused by a Beninese woman, Pede Victoire, of sexually assaulting her 13-year-old daughter, Ahouandjinou Dona Sarah. However, in a surprising development, the alleged victim later denied the accusation. The case is now under appeal.
Bianca Ojukwu added that efforts are ongoing to ensure justice is served for Egbaji. She also expressed her appreciation to the authorities in Benin Republic, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice, for granting timely access to the pastor.
