A Nigerian man has opened up about a painful experience after discovering that a trusted friend misappropriated funds intended for their joint business venture to move to the United States.
Sharing his story on X under the username @silverpenydr, he explained that he had given his friend money to invest in a business partnership.
Unbeknownst to him, the friend diverted the funds to finance a personal trip abroad.
“I trusted a friend with a business deal, not knowing he was secretly gathering money to travel to the US. He took the funds meant for our venture and left. I ended up needing antidepressants. I haven’t heard from him to this day,” he revealed.
Since the friend’s departure, the man has had no communication with him and has struggled to deal with both the financial loss and emotional impact.
The post quickly drew attention online, with many Nigerians relating similar experiences of friends or partners betraying trust.
