A 29-year-old woman, Chisom Okonkwo, has been arraigned before an Enugu Magistrate Court for allegedly defaming her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, by falsely claiming he sexually assaulted their two daughters, aged 2 and 5.
The police charge sheet states she publicly accused him of defilement, exposing him to ridicule and damaging his reputation.
Ozioma was arrested on October 25, 2025, but medical examinations found no evidence of abuse, leading to his release.
Chisom is also accused of giving false information to detectives at the State Intelligence Department on October 27, 2025.
A 29-year-old Nigerian woman, Chisom Okonkwo, has been arraigned before an Enugu Magistrate Court for allegedly lying against her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, by claiming he sexually assaulted their two young daughters.
According to the charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police, the alleged offences occurred in August 2024 at Adoration Junction, opposite Dan-Legal Hotel, Emene, Enugu State.
The police stated that Chisom “defamed the character of one Okonkwo Ozioma ‘m’ by shouting in public that he defiled her two daughters, which exposed him to hatred, contempt, and ridicule, and damaged his reputation.” The charge sheet cites violations of Section 323, punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.
Investigations showed that Ozioma Okonkwo was arrested in Enugu on October 25, 2025, after Chisom accused him of sexually abusing their daughters, aged 2 and 5, during a marital dispute. However, medical examinations reportedly found no evidence of abuse, leading to his release.
In a second count, the police accused Chisom of providing false information to detectives at the State Intelligence Department (SID), Enugu, on October 27, 2025. According to the charge, she “knowingly misled police officers” by claiming her husband had abused their daughters, which resulted in his arrest and detention. The offence is punishable under Section 154(1)(a) & (b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.
As of the time of this report, the court has not released details on Chisom’s plea, bail status, or subsequent proceedings.
