In response to a widely circulated screenshot online alleging that NIO is laying off 50% of its workforce, NIO has officially refuted the rumor. Late on February 19, NIO‘s official account posted a statement on the NIO app, saying, “Today, a heavily circulated screenshot in various group chats claimed that ‘a luxury car company’ is cutting 50% of its staff, with some commenters indicating that the company refers to NIO. To responsibly address and debunk this rumor, I specifically verified with our HR head, who, unsurprisingly, found it utterly absurd.”
NIO stated that its legal team has already reported the matter to the police. Additionally, the company took the opportunity to post a recruitment advertisement, highlighting that it has a number of high-quality positions available for both campus and social recruitment. NIO‘s legal department has been particularly active recently. On February 9, it issued a Statement on Publicly Soliciting Clues About Internet Trolls, calling on the public to provide evidence of malicious attacks by online trolls. NIO emphasized that if any online accounts are found to be defaming or slandering NIO, its sub-brands, or systematically creating and spreading malicious negative information for the purpose of gaining traffic or other illegal benefits, relevant clues and evidence can be submitted to the company. For verified and valid leads, NIO will reward the provider with amounts ranging from RMB 10,000 to 1 million, depending on the significance of the information.
On February 14, NIO‘s legal department announced that after releasing the statement soliciting clues about trolls, its submission email had received nearly 2,000 emails. The same day, NIO also addressed a false post by the online account “Lao Qi,” which claimed that a collision occurred while driving a NIO vehicle during a highway battery swap. The account later admitted the post was inaccurate and deleted it, but the incident had already caused severe negative public sentiment, leading to serious misunderstandings about the effectiveness of NIO‘s highway battery swap function and significantly damaging the company’s reputation.
