Nigerian Afrobeats star Omah Lay has shared his reaction to receiving his first-ever Grammy nomination, expressing both gratitude and a sense of calm detachment about the milestone.
The singer earned the nod for his collaboration with Davido on With You, which has been nominated in the Best African Music Performance category at the upcoming 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
In a message posted on his fan page on Instagram, Omah Lay thanked his supporters and acknowledged the honor but made it clear that awards are not what drive him as an artist. He explained that his goal has always been to create music that connects with people on a deeper level, not to chase trophies or external validation.

Interestingly, Omah Lay shifted much of the spotlight toward Davido, his collaborator on the track. He added that even though he isn’t overly concerned about winning, he sincerely hopes Davido takes home the award, describing him as “the realest friend I’ve had in a while.”

Their joint track, With You, has been praised for its heartfelt lyrics and smooth, melodic production, showcasing the powerful synergy between two generations of Nigerian music stars.
