The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the results of the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,000 affected candidates will be released on May 21.

The resit was conducted following public outcry over mass failure in the original UTME, with JAMB confirming technical and human errors, particularly in Lagos and South-East states, contributed to the poor performance.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the results of the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be released on Wednesday, May 21.

The resit, which took place between Friday and Monday, was organized for 379,000 candidates affected by technical and human errors in the original 2025 UTME—particularly in Lagos and parts of the South-East.

The decision to reschedule came after widespread public outcry over poor performance in the initial exam. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the original test, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of 400 marks. Only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) managed to score 300 and above, while nearly half fell within the 160 to 199 range.

Speaking to The PUNCH, JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin confirmed the new release date:

“The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday,” he said.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, previously addressed the controversy, attributing the mass failure to acts of sabotage. He acknowledged responsibility and said that affected candidates would be notified of their results via SMS.

According to Oloyede, 206,610 candidates in Lagos and 173,387 in the South-East were directly affected by the glitches that disrupted the initial exam process.
