Umlaut has once again named Rogers the best wireless network in Canada.

Rogers took Umlaut’s ‘Best in Test’ award for the seventh consecutive year and was also named best in voice, data, and reliability.

Umlaut says it used a combination of “drivetests” and crowdsourced data to benchmark network performance. The drivetests saw Umlaut measuring network performance in cities and towns across the country, as well as on connecting roads, measuring roughly 61 per cent of the population. Meanwhile, crowdsourced data covered 99.1 per cent of the population.

Looking at Umlaut’s data, it scored Rogers, Bell, and Telus out of 1,000 possible points based on voice, data, and crowdsource performance. Rogers scored a total of 912, ahead of Bell’s 878 and Telus’ 837.

In Umlaut’s drivetest data, Rogers consistently outperformed Bell and Telus in voice and data. However, when expanding to include the crowdsource data, the scores were much closer and in some cases, Bell or Telus performed better than Rogers.

For reliability, Umlaut scored carriers out of 600 points, with Rogers getting 547, Bell scoring 526, and Telus landing at 510. The full report can be found on Umlaut’s website.

Umlaut is part of the consulting agency Accenture. It says it evaluates over 200 networks in more than 120 countries with its scoring methodology.

It’s interesting to see Rogers consistently named the best by Umlaut over the years, especially as other speed testing organizations offer up differing results.

Ookla, the company behind the Speedtest app, frequently says Bell has the best 5G and fibre networks in Canada, though sometimes Telus sneaks in a win. Similarly, Opensignal has awarded Rogers, Bell, and Telus over the years. Rogers recently got a nod for having the fastest broadband download speeds, while last year, Opensignal named Bell’s 5G as the fastest. However, in 2023, Opensignal said all three providers offer a similar mobile experience.

Meanwhile, Umlaut declared Rogers’ wireless network as the best in 2020, 2021, and 2023. It’s worth noting that Rogers commissioned Umlaut’s 2021 report, but it’s not clear if the company also commissioned the 2025 report.
