after the eight weeks, Samsung will delete it permanently.

Samsung has started to notify customers that it is considering any accounts that haven’t been signed into for two years as inactive and that they will be “subject to deletion.” This will be subject to a new policy that comes into effect on July 31.

“If an account is deleted, access to the account will be restricted and all data linked to the account will be deleted,” according to an email by Samsung. The email also mentions that all accounts and data that are deleted cannot be restored.

As The Verge mentions, the Galaxy Store and other proprietary Samsung apps like Health and Galaxy Wearables also require a Samsung account, which means that the data associated with those accounts risks being lost if it is deleted. However, Samsung says some data will be retained in accordance with legal requirements.

The one exception to the new policy will be registered family accounts, accounts with a history of using and accumulating reward points, and accounts used to purchase products on Samsung’s website. These accounts will be considered active.

For the account to be considered active, all that is required is one usage record every two years. To count as usage/activity, you must log into the account, create it, or use a connected app/service while signing in.

These changes will mainly affect former users who switched from a Samsung device. If you want to switch back to Samsung, it would be a smart idea to log in soon before the data gets permanently deleted. It also needs to be noted that Google made a similar move two years ago, and started deleting inactive accounts in December 2023.
