Amanda Quwe is set to join My Brother’s Keeper as Doreen Majola.
LEGENDARY actress Amanda Quwe is set to grace our TV screens again.
Known for her roles in the 1996 isiXhosa drama Aba Kwazidenge and other shows including Tsha Tsha and Muvhango, she’ll be joining My Brother’s Keeper.
She spoke to Daily Sun about joining the Mzansi Magic show.
“Doreen Majola is the epitome of matriarchal strength. She reminds me of my late mum, who never let injustice go unaddressed. Doreen’s love is as deep as her life’s challenges. She’ll gather strength, no matter how long it takes. All I can say is, touch her offspring, uzowuzwa umoya! The Shabalalas will never be the same again,” she said.
Amanda works behind the scenes, but every now and then takes on TV roles.
“I’ve had the honour to feel like the roles were written for me or that they chose me. When time permits, I do take those, and where possible, production works around me. It’s a huge sacrifice for what I consider a holiday now and then. I’m insanely passionate about my behind-the-scenes work as a production controller and line producer.

“Roles that choose me have a way of giving back to me, especially if you allow the character to embody you. 1802: Love Defies Time’s MamCwerha changed things for me. I’d love more villain roles in the future, rather than the sweethearts. Zuziwe, one of my longtime favourites, continues to live within me. It’s funny how much of a sucker for romance I am, like her,” she said.
The actress said she’s going to set the Shabalalas’ world on fire.
“I love Doreen. Oh, I’d vote for her as the next Minister for Women’s Empowerment. Our viewers will see a slice of themselves in her. She rises to the occasion seven times. Her journey is relatable, and her resilience most admirable. She is and was just a girl,” she said.
Amanda said she loved being on set with the cast.
“What’s seen on screen is truly a collaboration by a great ensemble. It’s a pity this is the last season, but it’s a great show – the story and actors. I must single out Wiseman Mncube, who plays Nqubeko, my son. Words can’t begin to express the gratitude and honour of working with him. The humility, professionalism in his art. He’s a joy to work with.
“The Shabalala couple, Lindani Nkosi and Hlengiwe Lushaba Madlala (Mshengu and MaMchunu), the Shabalala brothers, S’dumo Mtshali and Nkanyiso Mchunu (Donga and Ndumiso), are amazing souls in real life. Nelisa Mchunu (Khathazile) is a breath of fresh air. Zola Nombona (Fakazile) an all-time sweetheart and played my daughter in one movie – a wonder to work with. There’s something about people with innate energy,” she said.
She also thanked the production company and the channel.
“I’m so grateful that the channel and production chose me for this role. I’m humbled each time. It came at a time when I also needed this opportunity. So, thank you so much to commissioning editors and Mzansi for believing I can portray her best,” she said.
