Dr Brian Monaisa is also known for gushing over his lover, media personality Minnie Dlamini.
MZANSI is captivated by celebrity transformations, whether natural or enhanced.
Figures such as Khanyi Mbau are often mocked for being open about cosmetic procedures, while others like Sithelo Shozi receive praise.
There’s a mix of reactions around these transformations, yet speculation about how stars achieve these looks remains rampant.
This obsession on social media builds unrealistic beauty standards, making it challenging for young fans to love their natural bodies.
Expert insights
Daily Sun spoke to Dr Brian Monaisa, a renowned plastic surgeon known for procedures such as mommy makeovers, breast rejuvenation, and body contouring.
“Most of the people whose bodies are admired on TV celebrities have had something done,” Monaisa said.
He explained that “perfection is an illusion”.
“If you look at identical twins, they don’t have the exact same faces. It’s often the little imperfections that give a person their unique character. Beauty is about proportion, not perfection,” said the doctor.
Monaisa revealed that liposuction, BBLs, and breast reductions are among the most popular procedures with Mzansi celebrities.
“For some DJs and influencers, surgery has increased their bookings. They find themselves in higher demand after enhancing their appearance,” he said.
“It’s not just about beauty. It’s about marketability. Some celebrities see plastic surgery as an investment in their careers,” he said.
Beyond Mzansi, the USA trend is for women to undergo surgery to attract wealthier partners.
“Whether we like it or not, we live in a world where appearance matters. Surgery can give people an advantage in dating and professional spaces,” said Monaisa.
He believes scrutiny surrounding cosmetic procedures remains strong.
“People say, ‘Accept what God gave you’, but those same people buy cars, renovate their houses, and wear make-up. Why should changing your body be any different?” Monaisa said.
He also noted that fixing a physical feature can boost mental health.
“If a woman’s breasts are too large and cause back pain, no one judges her for getting a reduction. So why judge someone who just wants to feel more confident?” he said.

However, botched surgeries are on the rise.
“Do your research. A good reputation matters,” said Monaisa.
He emphasised the importance of having realistic expectations.
“We have safe limits. For example, the maximum fat we can remove in liposuction is four litres. Some patients want more, but safety comes first.”
Dr Brian Monaisa is also known for gushing over his lover, media personality Minnie Dlamini.
Monaisa also had advice for those facing online bullying post-surgery.
“People will always have something negative to say. If they weren’t mocking your body before surgery, they’d find something else to criticise. Plastic surgery is a personal decision. It’s about feeling good in your own skin.”
He shared a story of how surgery can impact confidence.
“I’ve had husbands come back and tell me their wives feel amazing after surgery. And when the wife is happy, the whole house is happier,” he said.
“Your body is yours. If changing something makes you happy, that’s all that matters,” he said.
The doctor has not only gained recognition for his work but is also in the spotlight for his relationship with award-winning media personality Minnie Dlamini. Social media continues to buzz with comments about their relationship.
