SINGER-SONGWRITER Zee Nxumalo has built a reputation for her deep connection with fans, often making headlines for inviting them on stage during her performances.

The Ngisakuthanda hitmaker frequently trends on social media for asking security to allow fans to join her, letting them request songs and even perform alongside her.

Despite her openness, the 22-year-old Joburg-based artist is always cautious about who approaches her.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Zee, whose real name is Zandile Nxumalo, shared insights on balancing fan interaction with personal safety during performances.

“Of course, I’m concerned about my safety. I always assess the situation. If someone manages to bypass security and run towards me, it shows just how much they love me. Many just want to show their appreciation,” she said.

She emphasised that allowing fans on stage is not a strategic move to build a closer bond but rather a genuine gesture.

“It’s not even a planned strategy. Some fans I have had to turn away due to security risks, but it’s hard to deny an elderly person or a young fan who is genuinely happy to see me. There are situations where I choose not to entertain it,” she said.

Zee also acknowledged that not everyone who tries to get on stage is a fan. Some simply have a crush on her, and she doesn’t entertain such advances.

“You can tell by their eyes. Some people are just excited to see an artist, while others are looking at me as a crush and just want to hold me. I don’t give them a chance. You can always differentiate between an innocent fan and someone taking advantage of the moment,” she said.

In addition to discussing her fan interactions, Zee teased new music in the works.

“We’ve sampled a new song, and it’s already making waves on social media. Now, I’m feeling the pressure to release it. I know it’s tricky to drop a new track while the current one is still doing well, but if the fans demand it, I’ll release it,” she said.
