Governor of Sokoto State has approved the purchase of a N100 million property to provide permanent shelter for Internally Displaced Persons, alongside a massive N6.47 billion investment in key road infrastructure across the state.
The approvals were granted during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, marking a significant stride in the administration’s effort to address both humanitarian needs and infrastructural development.
According to the state Commissioner for Information, Sambo Danchadi, the newly acquired property had been home to IDPs for several years under the care of a compassionate private individual.
With government acquisition now complete, the facility will serve as a permanent refuge for those displaced by conflict and disaster.
“These are people who have suffered immense losses, homes, properties, and even loved ones. By securing this property for them, we are not only providing shelter but restoring dignity and hope,” Danchadi said.
He added, “This house will remain a government asset to serve current and future IDPs, ensuring no one is left behind.”
Among the approved road projects is the construction of the Zurumi Roads at Gao Nama market, valued at N123.6 million and awarded to ZBC Nigeria Limited.
The council also approved the reconstruction of pavements and islands on 27 dualized roads within Sokoto metropolis, covering major routes such as Shehu-Shargali, Maniru Road, and the Kano-Maiduguri road axis.
The contract, worth N3.64 billion, was awarded to Roads Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed in six months.
Also approved is the rehabilitation of the flood-damaged Margai-A-Town Road and structural enhancements to the Gebi Bridge in Kebbe, with a combined value of N2.71 billion, also awarded to Roads Nigeria Limited.
“These approvals reflect a comprehensive approach to infrastructure renewal, economic resilience, and humanitarian care under the Governor’s leadership,” Danchadi stated.
“The administration is not only building roads; it is building lives, reconnecting communities, and securing a future where every citizen feels seen and supported,” he added.
