Tyson Fury and Jake Paul have publicly passed on their condolences following a car crash in Nigeria that left two close associates of Anthony Joshua dead while the former world heavyweight champion was hospitalised in stable condition.
Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the vehicle he was travelling in lost control and struck a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of two members of his training team. Joshua sustained injuries in the crash but was later reported to be in a stable condition in hospital.
Paul, who fought Joshua just days earlier, reacted to the news by expressing his sympathy for those affected. “Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident,” Paul said, according to reports.
Fury also shared a message following the incident as tributes continued to emerge from across the boxing world. “This is so sad. May God give them a good bed in heaven,” Fury said, according to reports, as he offered his condolences to Joshua and the families of those who died.
The incident comes at a time when Joshua’s immediate future in the ring had been in focus following his recent bout with Paul, while Fury has been widely rumoured as a potential opponent for Joshua in 2026. Any plans are now expected to be secondary as Joshua recovers and those close to him mourn the loss of his team members.
Joshua has been one of the most prominent figures in British boxing over the past decade, holding multiple heavyweight world titles during his career, and the tragedy has prompted widespread messages of support from fighters, promoters and fans alike.
