Top four finish may not be enough for Liverpool boss Slot to keep job

Struggling Premier League champions Liverpool once again dropped points in the race for a top four finish as they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Burnley on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s defending champions started the new season superbly – winning their first five games – but a dismal run of form during October and November obliterated the Reds’ chances of defending their crown.

The Merseyside outfit have improved over the past couple of months and are unbeaten in their last ten matches in the Premier League, however they have drawn six of those games.

That run of form has left Liverpool fourth in the top flight standings, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal and just a single point ahead of fifth-placed Manchester United.

Despite their recent improvement, it has now emerged that Champions League qualification alone may not be enough to save Slot’s job beyond this summer.

According to indykaila News, those in charge of the club are aware of the lack of progression made under Slot since March 2025, and Slot’s job may not be safe unless improvement is made.

It is claimed that Slot has been informed that his side must show improvement in both tactics and style between now and the end of the season in order for the Dutchman to remain in his post beyond the summer.

Slot joined Liverpool ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, having guided former side Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title the previous year.

He enjoyed a superb start to life at Anfield, guiding the Reds to the Premier League title, with his side securing the trophy after an emphatic 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in April last year.

In total the Dutchman has won 54 of his 88 matches in charge of Liverpool, but it appears that he must oversee improvement in the final months of the current campaign in order to ensure he isn’t dismissed this summer.
