Thomas Frank is once again under pressure at Tottenham after draws against Brentford and Sunderland have been followed by a defeat.
The club are continuing to back him and the sale of Brennan Johnson is the clearest sign yet that Frank’s methods are here to stay as a player who thrived under Angeball but is measurably useless for Frankball is jettisoned.
But there are still limits and another defeat at Bournemouth is testing those. Here, then, are the top 10 candidates to replace him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, according to the latest odds from Oddschecker.
10) Andoni Iraola
Just at the point where we start to wonder whether he’s in fact already too good for Tottenham, he slumps to a realistic candidate equilibrium. But then came the inevitable win over Dr Tottenham to put him back into contention.
8=) Xavi
The former Barcelona coach has been out of work since leaving the La Liga giants at the end of the 23/24 season, when it was reported that he was eyeing an ‘interesting’ club in the Premier League. There is no chance his use of the word aligns with what makes Tottenham ‘interesting’.
8=) Robbie Keane
Has shown a bit of gumption by managing in Israel and then Hungary. But does he have the gumption to take on Tottenham?
6=) Jurgen Klopp
Consistently cited as evidence of his imminent return to Anfield to save Liverpool in this crisis season, we draw your attention to this unequivocal statement: “I will never coach another team, a different team, in England.”
Yet he is the one manager currently being conspicuously backed in having now reached the top two despite the very idea – and we can’t stress this enough – being entirely impossible.
6=) Roberto De Zerbi
There’s little doubt in our minds that he will at some point return to the Premier League, and we imagine a Jose Mourinho-like press conference upon his return after a period in France when the already eccentric and outspoken manager has gone up a couple of sound-bite gears.
While most wouldn’t dream of leaving Marseille in the lurch in what looks as though it could be a genuine title race with PSG, De Zerbi isn’t a typical manager and strikes us as the sort of guy who wouldn’t just leave, but do so noisily, leaving as much chaos in his wake as possible. Which is absolutely ideal, of course, for inserting yourself into the traditionally calm and thoughtful and relaxing environment of Tottenham Hotspur.
5) Ruben Amorim
Just been sacked by Manchester United, and they are above Tottenham in the Premier League. Ergo, this makes sense. They do only have two competent centre-backs mind, so that might be a problem.
4) Enzo Maresca
In with a bullet after his Chelsea axe, but come on. As if Spurs would ever appoint a former Chelsea manager.
3) Marco Silva
Silva was strutting his stuff in the managerial shop window in north London a few weeks ago as the Spurs decision-makers were offered a glimpse of what it might look like to have him on the touchline.
He was himself recently under pressure for his job, not that anyone really expected Fulham to pull the trigger as we all now expect him to be their manager until the end of time, so perfectly matched are club and manager to each other.
2) Oliver Glasner
Crystal Palace are desperately trying to tie him down to a new deal, with his contract set to expire this summer.
The Eagles have lost momentum in the Premier League but are the favourites to win the Conference League. Success with Frankfurt and now Palace does raise the question as to whether he’s an underdog manager. But that could work.
But surely there are better next steps out there for Glasner – and Palace – than silly Spurs? Certainly with Manchester United now needing a manager and very much liking Glasner.
1) Xabi Alonso
Not sacked by Real Madrid, but left by mutual consent. The bottom line is that Alonso is now available and definitely won’t be managing Spurs any time soon.
