The software is also using Apple’s new Liquid Glass design
At WWDC 25, Apple has been on a roll with its new Liquid Glass interface design that has spread across all of its devices, including the Apple Watch.
Beyond the new software look, there are a handful of exciting features. The headline addition this year is a new Apple Intelligence-powered Workout Buddy.
This new program will give you a pep-talk, recap, and other motivating messages as you workout. This might be things like crossing a running milestone, or just letting you know if you’ve unlocked a new Workout medal.
In practice, this feature seems pretty fun and reminded me of the AI-powered DJ in Spotify, but instead of talking about music, it talks to you about your workouts.
This feature is limited to a handful of workout types – Running, walking, cycling, HIIT and strength training.
The Workout app, in general, has been redesigned. This makes it easier to make and use custom workouts and music within the watch app. The app can even auto-select music to help motivate you during your workout.
Moving on from the Workout app, the Smart stack is getting better and contextual. It can now see your location and other information about you to better predict what will appear in your Smart Stack.
For notifications on Apple Watch, there’s a new wrist flick feature that lets you rotate your watch away from you to dismiss notifications. This is the second mainline Apple Watch gesture after Double tap was added with Apple Watch 9.
A lot of the improvements coming to mainline Apple apps are also coming to the watch. For instance, the new iMessage translation features are now built into messages on Apple Watch.
Finally, the Apple Notes app is on Apple Watch, so you can read or add to your notes on the go without having to make a temporary note in the Voice Memo app.
The update will come out as a public beta in a month and will be released to all users in the fall.
