Nigerian storyteller Kizito has shared shocking findings from his recent investigation into the lives of prostitutes in Lagos. According to him, many of the women face constant harassment and exploitation, especially from the police.
Kizito said several women told him that when they are arrested and cannot afford bail, they are pressured to pay in another way. One of them said:
“When we’re arrested by the Nigerian Police and don’t have money for bail, we’re forced to pay with sex.”
He explained that the women work under tough conditions, dealing with frequent police raids, daily levies, unsafe environments, and the stigma of their work. Many also live in poor conditions and have little protection.
Kizito’s revelation has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for an investigation into the allegations and better protection for vulnerable women.
His report sheds light on the difficult reality faced by sex workers in Lagos and the urgent need to address abuse and exploitation in the system.
