The summer transfer window, which opened in June 2025, was one filled with drama, with numerous players such as Alexander Isak, Yoane Wissa and many more all pushing for a transfer to different clubs. One of such players was Ademola Lookman, who was vocal about his desire to leave Atalanta in the summer transfer window.

Ademola Lookman made it clear to Atalanta that he no longer wished to play for them going into the 2025/26 season after submitting a transfer request. The Nigerian forward was determined to join Inter Milan, a move that unsettled Atalanta as they were reluctant to strengthen a direct Serie A rival in the race for the league title and Champions League qualification.

Inter Milan had pursued Lookman persistently during the summer, tabling two offers, €40 million and later €45 million with bonuses, but both were rejected as Atalanta valued him at €50 million or more. Frustrated by stalled negotiations, Lookman refused to train, wiped his social media of Atalanta references, and accused the club of breaking promises regarding a summer exit.

Eventually, Inter pulled out of the race to prioritise midfield reinforcements, though reports suggested they could have returned with a late move. Napoli, meanwhile, emerged as a possible contender with a proposed €52 million bid, while Arsenal’s interest faded after Lookman reportedly turned them down, making it clear his preferred destination had always been Inter Milan.
