Growing up in Serbia’s buzzing basketball scene, Paunović started his pro career in 2021 with Dynamic BG. He later joined Dynamic VP before heading to Zlatibor. He has mixed it up in the Serbian league and ABA League 2 ever since.

In 2021-22, he averaged 8.8 points per game for Dynamic VP. By the 2023-24 campaign, that number had jumped to 11.7. This year, suiting up for Zlatibor, he’s putting up 9.2 points per game on 57.0% shooting — plus he’s hitting 35.1% of his threes. For a guard, that’s reliable outside shooting and strong finishing around the rim.

In March of this year, Paunović turned heads in the KLS league, logging a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists — a performance that earned him MVP honors for the round.

When asked about it, he kept the focus on his squad. “It’s a great feeling to be MVP, but winning with my team is always most important,” he said. Paunović also gave his MVP sneakers to a younger teammate, showing the leadership that gets college coaches excited.

What Role Will Paunović Play in UConn’s Rotation?
Paunović’s blend of size and skills means he can play behind — or even alongside — the Huskies’ main backcourt duo, Silas Demary Jr. and Solo Ball. His ability to slot in at either guard spot gives coach Dan Hurley more options when foul trouble or matchups force changes during games.

What separates Paunović from most guards is his rebounding. At 6’4″ and with years of professional action under his belt, he can pull down boards and instantly lead the break when the starters need a breather.

Plus, that 57% field goal shooting this season hints at a knack for efficient scoring against serious competition.

All those pro minutes have given Paunović the kind of game-tested confidence most college players never touch before their senior year. For UConn, that’s huge — especially on a team with plenty of new faces this fall.

There’s no question the Huskies prize players more focused on winning than on their stat lines. Paunović proved he fits that mold with his MVP comments, making it clear the team comes first.

Can Uroš Paunović Make an Immediate Impact for the Huskies?
Fans in Storrs won’t need to wait long to see what Paunović brings to the table. With his versatility and big-game experience, he is set to give UConn a new look when the 2025-26 season tips off.
