Fans reacted positively to one area of the UFC which has often been branded as dull or lazy.
UFC 318 takes place this weekend where Dustin Poirier will face Max Holloway for a third time with the BMF belt on the line.
Fans have been critical of the promotion in the past for not giving retiring fighters the send-off that they deserve but that isn’t the case for Poirier who appears to have had his plans all fall into place.
One of the biggest complaints about the UFC in recent times has been the overall strength of the cards, with too many events, which has watered down the quality.
There has been talk, despite highlights throughout the year, of the promotion resting on its laurels, which has been a regular criticism of one specific aspect of the UFC’s output.

However, for others, the UFC’s approach to them has led to regular criticism that the promotion isn’t being creative or looking to expand on their fairly consistent formula, with UFC 300 serving as the best example of this.
Promotions like RIZIN, or some of the recent boxing events that we have seen from Riyadh Season, have shown that even something as simple as an eye catching image to promote the event can get fans talking and immediately build excitement for fight night.
Fans have expressed a lot of negativity towards the UFC’s use of the Apex in Las Vegas, with the event posters also facing many of the same comments about lacking personality.
Despite this, the recently revealed poster for UFC Vegas 109 surprisingly earned a positive reaction on social media for its design.
It follows a fairly standard UFC pattern, featuring the two men involved in the main event, Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez, standing side-by-side with a strong use of two contrasting colors.
While the poster isn’t doing anything particularly special, fans seem to be on board with this particular design.
‘Awesome poster.’
‘I f— with this.’
‘Why is this actually good?’

‘Sick poster.’
‘Good poster for the best Apex card I’ve ever seen.’

While this may feel like a stretch, it’s certainly a better event than some of the previous trips to the Apex so far this year.
For a start, it has three matchups that will take place between ranked fighters which seems very rare for a Fight Night event, especially one that is taking place at the Apex.
Anthony Hernandez’s middleweight rise seems to have connected with fans and the co-main event between Alex Perez and Steve Erceg is a strong matchup.
With the likes of Andre Fili and exciting 22-year-old prospect Elijah Smith also on the card, August 9 may have avoided some of the criticisms that are regularly thrown at the Apex events.
