According to dashcam footage from multiple witnesses, the Xiaomi SU7 appeared to sway erratically before losing control. One netizen who was waiting at a traffic light nearby claimed to have heard the driver shouting loudly moments before the crash.
The vehicle then reportedly sped up, veered off course, collided with a roadside green belt, flipped into the opposite lane, and burst into flames.

Footage from another car’s dashcam shows the SU7 speeding past on the right before crashing and igniting almost instantly. The driver was trapped inside, and several bystanders attempted to rescue them — smashing the windows with bare hands and tools, suffering injuries in the process. Some brought fire extinguishers, but the doors could not be opened, and the blaze spread too quickly for the rescue to succeed.
When firefighters arrived, they used water cannons to suppress the flames before cutting through the vehicle’s frame to reach the driver. The fire was eventually brought under control, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of now, Xiaomi Auto has not issued any public statement regarding the incident.
Reporters later learned from the Chengdu Municipal Traffic Management Bureau that the case is being handled by the Sixth Division, while staff from the division’s accident unit said details must be obtained directly from the responding officers and could not be disclosed by phone.

Meanwhile, Chengdu Fire Department told reporters it is not yet available for interviews and that an official statement is expected. “The public opinion center is also managing the situation,” a spokesperson said.

At the time of reporting, Xiaomi’s stock price had fallen by 6% following news of the accident.
