Yankees proposed trade lands $200 million superstar shortstop to solve third base issues

What if the New York Yankees’ third base solution was currently a shortstop?

That’s one idea floating out there in a recent trade suggestion.

Newsweek’s Zach Presnell suggests the Yankees should pursue a deal for Minnesota Twins star Carlos Correa.

“The New York Yankees would make perfect sense here, Presnell writes. “Correa would slot in at third base for New York, but he has the flexibility to move all around the infield in the event of an injury or an off day for Jazz Chisholm Jr. or Anthony Volpe.”

Correa has never played third base. All 1,121 of his career MLB starts in the field have come at shortstop.

As a taller shortstop, he’s similar to the spot Alex Rodriguez was in when he came to the Bronx and had to slide over to let Derek Jeter stay at short.

Correa was a long-time rival of the Yankees when he starred for the Houston Astros.

The Bronx Bombers would surely like him better if he was in pinstripes.

Correa has dealt with an injury early this season, but he’s healthy and back on the field now.

He’s only batting .191 in the early going, but he does have six doubles and a home run.

Last season in 86 games for Minnesota, Correa batted .310 with 14 home runs.

The former No. 1 overall pick is still just 30 years old and could be a contributor in the Bronx for years to come.
