Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has sparked conversations on social media after sharing a post in which he described ancestors in Igbo land as “guardian angels” and encouraged Igbos to return to traditional spirituality.
In the post, accompanied by an image of his tweet, Edochie listed various Igbo ancestral spirits—Mmuo Ojukwu, Ogwugwu, Udo, Akpu—and compared them to Angel Gabriel, Angel Michael, and Raphael in Christianity.
“Our ancestors are our guardian angels. The spirits in Igbo Land, Mmuo Ojukwu, Ogwugwu, Udo, Akpu, etc. are our own Angel Gabriel, Angel Michael, Raphael, etc. Activate them by practising (Omenaani) & watch them fight your battles. Anyone planning your downfall will go down,”
he wrote.
Edochie’s post has since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. While some praised him for advocating a return to African heritage and spirituality, others criticized his views, accusing him of promoting idolatry.
