“I’ve had the opportunity to host an immense number of shows in my long career, but when it comes to such formats, I think it’s highly important to address complex and sensitive topics like incest in a respectful and educational manner. I hope the show will encourage open dialogue, foster understanding, and help viewers confront their own biases,” he said.

Wright believes love is universal, as to how it’s expressed, is deeply influenced by culture.

“Cultural narratives often define what’s considered acceptable or taboo in relationships. By showcasing diverse stories and perspectives, shows like Umkhonto Ogwaza Ekhaya challenge entrenched beliefs and encourage viewers to reconsider their views on love and relationships.”

Since 2010, he’s been running his own business, producing and investing in feature films locally and internationally.

“This venture allows me to explore storytelling from different cultural perspectives, which I find incredibly fulfilling,” he said.

His love for music has also played a key role in his creative journey. However, his biggest passion lies in empowering the next generation.

“I believe in empowering the next generation by sharing my knowledge and experiences in the industry. Whether through mentorship programmes or workshops, I strive to inspire young talent and help them realise their potential,” he said.

Through Umkhonto Ogwaza Ekhaya, Wright hopes to use reality TV as a tool for breaking cultural taboos and changing perceptions.

“Reality TV has a unique ability to present real-life stories that resonate with audiences on a personal level. By bringing taboo subjects into the public eye, can help demystify and reduce stigma,” he said.

He also acknowledged the importance of responsible storytelling.

“It’s important to handle these narratives sensitively and thoughtfully to avoid sensationalism.”

Wright is stepping into this role with a clear mission: to spark conversation, challenge traditions, and give a voice to stories that many shy away from.

Mzansi must prepare for a thought-provoking reality show like no other.
